Small plane crashes into power lines in Montgomery County

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) has announced that schools will be closed on Monday, November 28th, 2022. The closure is due to power outages across the county stemming from a plane crash Sunday evening in Gaithersburg.
MCPS Tweeted: "MCPS schools and offices will be closed Monday, Nov. 28, due to a widespread power outage and its impact on safety and school operations."
A small plane crashed into power lines in Montgomery County, Maryland, Sunday evening, leaving thousands in the county in the dark and without power.

The plane crashed in the area of Rothbury Dr & Goshen Road in Montgomery Village around 5:30 p.m., authorities said.
According to Pepco, close to 85,000 residents were without power. Pepco tweeted the following at 7pm: “We have confirmed that a private plane came into contact with Pepco’s transmission lines in Montgomery County, resulting in an outage to approximately 85,000 customers."
Just after midnight, emergency personnel safely brought the two people trapped inside the dangling plane to the ground, Montgomery County Fire Chief Scott Goldstein said in a news briefing. Responders took the two plane occupants to a trauma center with serious injuries, Goldstein said.
Montgomery County Public Schools closed schools Monday, preparing for the possibility of power outages stretching into the school day. Food services aren’t available at any of the county’s schools Monday.
The public school system sent a note to parents that said the closure is because “staff need to assess all buildings for their safety and other systems readiness such as heat, water and network connectivity; this work will be done throughout the day.”
Montgomery College also closed all of its campuses and locations for Monday.
